Caramel Apples

What treat is better to make in the fall than caramel apples?!? I’ve never tried this before, so they didn’t look the best in the end. If I had to guess, I don’t think I let the caramel set long enough, causing it to slide off the apple and pile up at the bottom. They were still delicious, though!

You will need:

Apples (I used granny smith)

Toppings (I used sprinkles, m&m’s, oreo’s, chocolate drizzle, mini chocolate chips, and marshmallow bits)

1 cup sugar

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup corn syrup

1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk

1 stick salted butter

I first soaked the apples in very hot water for 10 minutes. This removes the wax finish that stores add to the apples. It has been said that doing this helps hold the caramel better.

Make sure you dry the apples off completely.

Press in your holding sticks. I found mine on Amazon!

For the caramel, put all of the ingredients in a pot and heat over a medium setting. Stir slowly but frequently, until all sugar has been dissolved.

Remove the caramel from the heat, and let it cool for at least 10 minutes. This is where I could have done better. You really have to make sure that the caramel is stiff enough to hold on to the apple. It is also probably helpful to chill the apples in the fridge once they have been dipped.

Add your toppings and they are ready to eat!

I loved the way this homemade caramel tasted! I got my recipe from here.

Let me know if you have any tips for making caramel apples! I hope y’all are enjoying blogmas so far! I’ll be back tomorrow!

xoxo, sav
