Homemade Pop-Tarts

Today in the kitchen I decided to try something super new. I made homemade pop-tarts!!! I got this recipe from here. They were very colorful and tasted pretty good!

You will need:

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons golden sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup cold butter

1 egg, plus extra for brushing

1 tablespoon milk

½ jar strawberry jam

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 cup powdered sugar

Pink food coloring

Strawberry sauce

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Mix the flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl.

Rub the butter in with your fingers until you get a breadcrumb-like consistency.

Mix in the egg and milk until a dough forms. Keep adding milk if the dough is too dry.

Heat the jam and cornstarch over a low heat until warm and set aside.

Roll out the dough and cut out 12 rectangles.

Lay out 6 rectangles on a non-stick baking tray.

Add jam to the center of the rectangle, spreading out slowly. Be sure to leave a 1 cm border around the edges.

Brush the edge with egg.

Lay the remaining rectangles on top of each pastry.

Use a fork to press down around the edges.

Poke a hole in the top of each pop-tart.

Brush each one with egg wash.

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden. Let cool completely.

To ice, combine the powdered sugar, food coloring, and a little bit of water until you have a thick icing.

Spread icing over each pop-tart.

Add the sprinkles and drizzle strawberry sauce over the top of each one.

Let me know if you decide to try this yummy recipe. Comment down below any recommendations of food you think I should try or blog posts that you would like to see from me. I am always up for suggestions. Until next time!

xoxo, sav
